Raoul Hausmann (1886-1971) 'The Spirit of Our Time', 1920 (assemblage)

                                                  RAOUL HAUSMANN (1886-1971)
'The Spirit of Our Time', 1920 (assemblage)

This is a perfect representation of a corrupt society unable to have the liberty for growth.People weren't allowed to do more than what they were told to do. Hausmann glued several mechanical objects to a dummy head. He said that the corrupt society had "no more capabilities than those which chance has glued to the outside of his skull; his brain remains empty”"

The wood dummy head is empty inside, the carved eyes have no expression. The empty head has no ability of creating thoughts, let alone the ability to do anything. The glued objects, such as the rule are sticking to the outside of the head, representing ideas, tasks given by someone else.
